Backwoods (TV)

Plot: The manager of a video game company invites a few employees to participate in a 'Battle Royal' paint-ball game at a corporate retreat in Jasper Park to practice executive tactics. When the game starts, the group finds that their training is more than a paint-ball game, but a fight for survival in a hostile ground whose inhabitants are lunatics.

Starring: Ryan Merriman ("Pretty Little Liars" & Final Destination 3), Danny Nucci ("CSI: NY" & "Criminal Minds"), Haylie Duff (Tug & "Joan of Arcadia").

Written by: Sundance award nominee Anthony Jaswinksi (Kiling Time & Xtra Credit (TV)).

Directed by: Marty Weiss (Xtra Credit (TV)).

Review: Now one of my favorite adjectives has been turned into a film. Fun, but generic horror entertainment. Typical horror set up made good by strong victims and good acting. Even Haylie Duff was good, though she really wasn't the lead as the cover would suggest. Merriman was the lead whose character arch made the film interesting. I like these kinds of films where everyday people are put in extraordinary situations and watching how each character reacts. Don't get me wrong. There are still plenty of clichés here: the killing of random people opener, the bad guy cops, etc. Why do all these horror villains in the woods have to be religious fanatics? All in all though, I still found it to be good fun with a nice payoff. Not bad at all for a TV movie.
