Henry's Crime Movie Review

Henry's Crime (2010) Poster

Henry's Crime 2010 Crime Dramedy Starring:  (Upcoming 47 Ronin & The Lake House), Oscar nominee  (Up in the Air), O.N.  (The Godfather),  (the upcoming Carrie remake & "Royal Pains") Director:  (44 Inch Chest). Writers: Indie SPirit Winner  (Anvil: The Story of Anvil) &  (Ninja: Shadow of a Tear). Plot: Released from prison for a crime he didn't commit, an ex-con (Reeves) targets the same bank he was sent away for robbing. Trailer Review: Henry's (Keanu's) crime was making this terrible movie. What seems like a fun, albeit straightforward heist film becomes a convoluted & sugar coated after school special lesson about following your dreams. The pacing was painful. This 1hr 47min film seemed like it went on forever. This was in order to establish characters that you end up not really caring about and setting up the love story between Varmiga & Reeves who weren't believable at all until they were on stage. That's when Caan is left as a supporting character when he was the most fun to watch, and instead we are left with a convoluted con involving Henry scheming his way into Julie's (Farmiga's) play in a playhouse that just so happens to be right behind the bank that he really didn't rob with a secret way that leads straight into the bank vault. How convenient. This is when they kind of leave the whole caper aspect of this film as a subplot & allow the love story to take over. He does this play while he's planning this bank robbery, and in that time Henry & Julie fall in love while the audience has to suffer through Reeves trying to act out Chekhov. Uggh. My entire advanced scene study class in college was about Chekhov. I did scenes from all his plays including the one in this film called The Cherry Orchard. Will the robbery succeed? Will he & Julie end up together? Don't waste your time finding out. This muddled mess of a film isn't a good caper film, isn't a good love story, & is an even worse exploration of Chekhov. Every time the stage aspect of the film would get interesting the camera would cut to the next scene. It's as if the editor didn't want Farmiga to outshine Reeves so he had to cut out her best scenes. I also really don't get the "lesson" in this film. The tagline in the trailer says the worst crime are dreams unfulfilled. Henry has no dreams at the end unless you mean him falling in love. Julie has dreams about being a great actress. They really put her character's dreams on the back burner and reduced a complex character into a mere love interest that never actually achieves her dreams of really being a great actress. This film could've been somewhat saved if the ending hadn't been so abrupt, so cheesy, and hadn't butchered the hell out of Chekhov. But it did all 3 which is a shame cuz I love Farmiga. She was too good for this movie. She should go on Broadway, do Chekhov for real, and grab herself a Tony while I try to forget Reeves in a fake stage goatee. Rating: Rather Stab a Pen in My Eye Than Ever Watch This Again. Watch instead: Ocean's 11 for a better heist film, The Sisters for better Chekhov (not The Cherry Orchard. It's an adaptation of 3 Sisters, but still great.- I played Masha in my advanced scene study class), If I Were You for a better play within a movie movie (The play in this one being King Lear), and lastly "Bates Motel" for Farmiga's Emmy nominated performance or Orphan.

PR RW-Season 12, Episode 10 - Project Runway SuperFan!

Last wk: No more immunity. Bradon and Dom win in a PRRW first. Dom was on the bottom and got 1 hour to redo her outfit with the other 2 on the bottom: Jeremy and Ken. Dom impressed so much that she won too. Belk will also be producing & selling her garment. Last week's challenge involved making an outfit for Belk department stores for a modern Southern woman.

Eliminated: Jeremy for making a colorful church lady outfit. Not modern at all.

This wk: 8 super fans of PRRW have been chosen (Why did I not hear about this contest?) to fly to NY to have the designers make them over. The designers were assigned to the women based on the random button bag drawing. These women also got new haircuts and color by the Loreal design team. Jealous!!!

Judges: Heidi, Zac, Designer Erin Fetherston, and Marie Claire Senior Fashion Editor/NBC Today Show and E! News Contributor and Stylist Zanna Roberts Rassi (Nina was gone this wk).

Zanna looks so cute. It makes me wanna mix a print with a colorblock. Zac looks a little old, but I like the color combo. I really want to do something with his hair though. He looks like his mom cuts it. I like Heidi's 2 pieces separately but not together. I'm crazy about Erin's outfit H2T. It's a good thing I don't live in NY. I might have to tackle her for it. :p

Heidi's cute red nails are even cuter next to that striped top.

Erin Fetherston's designs below

J'adore. Cute with a great use of details. Lol I kind of have the 3rd model's haircut. The top on model 2 though seems like stuff I've seen in stores.

Zanna Roberts Rassi style moments

Such a lovely wedding gown that's perfect for her frame. Love! Want a way to make a suit fun? A short suit!

Yeah I'd look like that too if I had that thing hanging from my ear. '80's meets Pocahontas. She's done this in pink before.

Cute, but I can't tell if it's a dress or a tunic.

Pink tie! Nuff said. If I were a gay man, I'd dress like Tim Gunn.

Bradon seems to really love plaid and so do I.

Project Runway Season 12 Kate Pankoke Episode 10 Photos
I love Kate's printed skirt, but it could go sister-wife fast so I'm glad she paired it with that leather belt.

Her outfits are so boring, & her runway looks are starting to match. Those shoes are kinda cool.

Helen what is that on the left shoulder of your jacket? Is it ripped?
Project Runway Season 12 Helen Castillo Episode 10 Photos
Helen in a very basic outfit. I guess that jacket above goes with? Check out her vampire nails too. Not sure if I like them, but at least they have personality.

No wonder Helen never wears prints. She has a permanent print on her arms.
Project Runway Season 12 Ken Laurence Episode 10 Photos
Ken looks so nice when he's smiling, which is rare. That color is not flattering though. He's need bright colors for his skin tone.

I love all of Kate's outfits.

Full of personality but that stripe with that floral doesn't match at all. If you're going to mix prints either have them in the same color combination or have the print be similar patterns, like a stripe on a plaid.

She's got a cute figure that you can't see, and her hair looks unhealthy. She wants a suit for her corporate office.

After

First of all, bravo to the Loreal ppl. Her hair looks professional & healthy, and her makeup is flawless.
Now the design: Awful. As soon as I heard the word suit come out of his mouth I got worried. He's such a fun designer full of lots of drama that suit seemed like it could get boring fast. There are some killer suits out their. In this one, I'd just die of boredom. It also doesn't fit her, is unfinished, & is unflattering with her skin tone.
Project Runway Season 12 Episode 10 Photos
I want the girl version of those pants. I love his "bowling shoes". That color would've been flattering on his model.

Before
Project Runway Season 12 Episode 10 PhotosProject Runway Season 12 Alexandria von Bromssen Episode 10 Photos
Alexandria's model definitely looks like a college student. She wants an outfit to go on job interviews. She's an art history major, but her current look doesn't reflect her at all. Alexandria looks like she came from the gym like always.

After

The print of the skirt was cool, but Zac Posen was right. The waist band with where it hit made it look like a maternity skirt. That length with the Aline made it look like it was from the juniors department. The jacket didn't fit, and the top was an afterthought. Alexandria kept saying "conservative" for a job interview. She's an art history major not a accounting major (no offense to any fashionable accountants out there). Creative professionals need to look creative (professional yes not crazy) in a job interview so it looks like they belong in that field. You have to dress for the job you want. Working in the art field requires more creativity than other fields when it comes to what you wear. This girl is so much cooler than this look. Take a cue from her amazing haircut & color.

Alexandria looks like she's wearing a sweater tied around her hips. Is that a tunic or a skirt over pants? She always has great shoes though.

She looks like a sweet, preppy Sorority girl during Rush Week. She looks cute, but she looks too young. She wanted an outfit to make her look powerful & edgy because she's naturally soft spoken. However, I must say she's got some guns on her. She looks like she could punch the shit out of you at a PTA meeting if u cross her.

After

Project Runway Season 12 Episode 10 Photos
I think the haircut makes her look closer to her age. SHe still looks younger than she actually is cuz let's face it. What woman want to actually look her age. She looked like a college freshman in the before picture. Considering she said she wanted to look powerful because she's soft spoken, she's probably gotten treated like a kid her whole adult life by ppl who didn't know any better cuz of the way she looked. This look makes her look classy & powerful, and it's a look that ppl will take her seriously with. She does not look like a woman you can walk all over. She also looks unique now. It gives her something different that other suburban moms don't have. The only problem I have with this outfit is I think the shoulder is a bit too strong for her. She has these awesome guns so she doesn't need a strong shoulder. Bradon looks really cool and matches his design a bit. He looks very masculine this week, but still has his flair with his signature blow tie. I love his bowties.

Before
Project Runway Season 12 Dom Streater Episode 10 Photos
She looks like someone who doesn't know how to dress her body or how to put together an outfit or accessorize, but I liked that she tried to anyway. She wanted to look pretty.

After

No one who lived during the first time a trend appeared (in this case that 80's print) should ever wear it again when it comes back in fashion. It just makes the person look like they haven't updated their wardrobe. I like Dom until she goes into '80s territory. The jacket is cool but not on her. It does nothing for her figure. I do love the hair though.

Before
Project Runway Season 12 Helen Castillo Episode 10 Photos
Helen's model reminds me of a mix of the befores of 2 Anne Hathaway characters in movies: Mia from Princess Diaries & Andie from The Devil Wears Prada. She wants a glamorous red carpet look. For those naysayers who might think "Why does she need a red carpet look? She'll never wear it." To that I say: 1. She wants to feel like a princess for a day dammit. and 2. There's always a ball of some variety that goes on at least once a year in your town if you look for it. I've lived in cities & small towns. There was always something.

After

Her tiny frame is harder to work with cuz the fit has to be perfect or it falls off. Bravo. Some forum ppl were saying that this shouldn't win because the super fan is thin. How's that fair? It wouldn't be fair to give someone who had a bigger model the win just because the model is bigger. All shapes and; sizes have different issues. No one body type is perfect. It would be interesting to see a plus size or petite episode one day though. This is also a beautifully tailored gown made in 2 days. OMG that hair! Kate said she looks like Anne  Hathaway now. I'm seeing Jessica Pare.

I really like this outfit. It's black but has personality with those chains around her neck & that really cool chiffon edged asymmetrical skirt/dress.

Before

Project Runway Season 12 Justin LeBlanc Episode 10 Photos
This sweet Mormon lady doesn't know how to dress her new body. She's lost over 100lbs. She wants something to feel pretty in, but can't be too showy cuz of religious beliefs.

This is the design some forum ppl thought should've won simply cuz the model was bigger & had lost over  100lbs so she had excess skin apparently. The designer made a Spanx-like garment to help her out. Smart. However, this design wasn't very interesting. It fit her well, and it had a cute little feature on it; however, he made a very simple dress when he had 2 days. Plus, Jeremy got the win earlier in the season for writing on his garment (though I know this was actually sewn). The design still has that same type of feature. Although it hugs her curves well, high necklines on bustier women are not flattering. It makes the chest look saggy. That signature cups her right boob weirdly and kinda looks like a face, face at left profile as if the face is looking at her right arm.  So no, I don't he think he should've won for making a simple knit dress with 1 curly cue embroidery stitched into it, however clever it was just cuz the model was average in weight. I wouldn't consider her plus size, but I don't know her size. I think he got a fair score. He got top 3 with what would've been a safe score if it hadn't been for the fact that these are real women and not models so the judges did take that into consideration with the scoring. The hair is fine, but not enough of a transformation to me. They should've straightened it for more impact.
Project Runway Season 12 Episode 10 Photos
I love his outfit except for the girl boots. I've never seen a man wear boots over skinny pants. I love the top half tho with all the different textures working together.

Before
Project Runway Season 12 Episode 10 Photos
Kate's model wanted to look like the hottest mom on the block. She's a beautiful woman with the wrong hair color. I don't why everyone thinks blond is the way to go. It doesn't work on everyone. It looks blah and washes her out.

After

This outfit is cool but looks a bit young for a more mature woman like herself. However, I love the hair color, cut and makeup. It brings out her amazing features & makes her look exotic (which she is).

Before
Project Runway Season 12 Episode 10 Photos
First of all, thank you for wearing bright color Ken. It really shows his personality, and I'm kinda obsessed with colored pants right now. It's now Fall, and I'm tired of wearing regular denim & black all the time. As for his model, I'd like that outfit for me, but it doesn't suit her shape. Princess seams don't work if you have a little in the middle or a wide torso. The shoes are cute but interrupt the line of her leg. I love that she got a pedicure tho.

After

The designer said it so I don't have to: 70's couch. Plus that leather swoop swoops in the wrong places cutting her boob in half. Thank You Boob Patrolman Heidi for that astute observation. Though with that hair, she does looks like Bernadette Peters.

Safe: Dom and Kate

I think that jacket saved Dom. Kate's design is cute and interesting, but not the right choice for the client.

Top: Bradon, Helen, Justin

Bradon's design did for the client what she wanted it to do: made her edgy to give her more confidence & make ppl see her differently. Not perfect though with respect to the upper half of her body, and I think the leather of vest should've been used for the strips instead of the patent leather. Jeremy's design was OK. A bit simplistic, and I'm tired of seeing so much knit wear from him. That's all he seems to be able to do. It's a clever feature, but 1 clever feature doesn't make a great design. It would also be more flattering with shorter sleeves or sleeveless (if she's allowed to wear sleeveless) and a small (not plunging) vneck.

My pick for winner: Helen

This was beautiful. The overall transformation is stunning. This is also the most difficult out of all the designs to implement. Lose those mom shoes though.

Winner: Helen

YAY!!!

Bottom 3: Alexander, Alexandria, Ken

Alexander made an unflattering, drab outfit that he didn't finish. Alexandria made a maternity/juniors department skirt with an overall outfit not right for the artistic client. The whole point of being a designer is to design, not just make your client happy. You're the professional. They aren't. Women don't always know what looks good on them, unless they're in fashion in some way or have had styling help or just happen to have great taste and a good sense of their body type. These women were picked because they needed a makeover, meaning that they don't know those things. It's your job to make something for your client that marries you're aesthetic with theirs, especially for this competition. You can never lose sight of who you are, or this dredge happens. You're just being a tailor/seamstress.

My elimination pick:

Ken-Fugly 70s couch. Why did he let her pick this? Unflattering as usual.

Eliminated:

Ken-About damn time. He's made some pretty fugly designs this season. I appreciate that he has a point of view, I just think he needs to travel a bit and get some experience to get a taste level beyond the women in his life.
