Plot: A film company comes to a small town to film a movie. Everything goes wrong.

Review: Boring. I tried to like it I really did. I love the premise of taking us behind the scenes of a motion picture and spoofing it. I liked America's Sweethearts. It had the same type of premise, but it was funnier. This movie was not. It was annoying. There are a few good moments. I liked Alec Baldwin's "hobby", Sarah Jessica Parker is always great, and I liked the love story between the screenwriter and a local bookstore owner. The movie in its entirety, however, was just painfully slow paced. If the pace moved a bit faster, I think I would've liked it more. Such a shame. What a great script.

Post Grad

I rented this movie for 2 reasons. 1. You never see movies about post college life. It's always pre-college, during college, or after the 20-something has graduated and already found a job. and 2. I feel like Ryden. It's hard out there even with a degree. I have a job as a publicist at a local theater company that pays me in contacts, resume padding, and freebies. In other words, it's a volunteer gig to help me get a job in an economy where no one is hiring, unless you're in sales. It was somewhat therapeutic for me to sit down and laugh at someone going through the same things I'm going through right now. It was, except for the crazy dad played by Michael Keaton in a completely miscast role. Maybe if someone who's actually funny played his part, I would want to own the movie. But, because Mr.Keaton gummed up the works, I find myself cringing at the thought of getting through his hair-brained scheming scenes again. This is sad because I actually liked the movie. It had an ending I saw coming, and yet I’m surprised that the writers had the balls to end it that way. Good for a laugh and good for anyone trying to find a job right now.

Weather Girl

I rented this movie because it looked like a cute, straight forward romantic comedy that made me laugh when I saw the trailer. That's usually a sign that tells me to see the film if it's a comedy. The movie was far more than that. Yes, the plot is something we've seen before, but what made it different was the character development. It's like there are two different types of romance/romantic comedies. 1. The cookie-cutter big theatrical releases that are sometimes cute, almost always predictable, and end happily and 2. the gritty character driven indie flicks that usually have a sad ending. This movie did what I've always wanted a filmmaker to do. It combined the two best parts of both. It took the happy ending cookie cutter premise of theatrical bigger budget releases with the character development of an indie film. What you get is a smart, funny film that actually rings true to life while still giving you that happy ending. Look for lots of familiar faces.

(500) Days of Summer

The best movie of 2009. I loved it. It reminded me of Annie Hall. It was different from most love stories. In fact, it even states at the beginning of the film that it is not a love story. It's funny, quirky, and well acted. What more can I say? I don't want to give anything away about this film. I will say that it has some great music, and the soundtrack is definitely on my must buy list. I will also say that I want every outfit Zooey Deschanel wears in this film, and I'm really happy she sings in it as well. Her band She and Him is even featured on the soundtrack. It comes off like it's going to be a chick flick, but it is so captivating that my husband even watched it with me after he saw the trailer. And he liked it.

The Informers

Based on the Bret Easton Ellis novel, I was very excited to see this film as I am a huge fan of American Psycho. After seeing this as well as the 1999 film Laws of Attraction, I'm beginning to feel like I'm not so much an Ellis fan as I am a fan of Mary Harmon's (American Psycho) interpretation. This movie was flat out depressing with only one likeable character. The whole point to this film is summed up by the only decent scene in it, with a line in it being "How are you supposed to know what's good and bad if nobody tells you?" This movie takes place in the 80s (which really threw my hubbyy off and got him not to be interested in it anymore) amongst a group of high class people with no morals. I'll never watch it again. Rent American Psycho instead.

Downloading Nancy

This movie will make you want to slit your wrists, so don't watch it if you're in a bad mood. Based on a true story about a depressed woman tracks down a guy on the internet to help kill her. She finds one. Through a series of flash backs and forwards you learn why she wants to kill herself. This film is a harrowing character study of a seriously abused woman. The acting by Maria Bello is incredible (completely deserving of her Indie Spirit nomination-let's cross our fingers for a win) as is Jason Patric as the mysterious internet man. They both manage to bring some humanity and sympathy for these unlikeable characters. Still, it was so hard to watch that I never will again. Creepy.

Paul McCartney: In Performance Hits

This documentary centered on Paul McCartney during and post The Beatles. It mainly covered his song writing and musicality. He played quite a few instruments. Well, that was what it was supposed to be about anyway. It started off as a beautifully detailed docu-timeline working through the entire Beatles anthology, stopping at key McCartney penned gems accompanied by live performances of those songs. Then it stopped. Only 72 minutes. That wasn't enough time to finish Paul's career. After they got to Abbey Road, they showed the remainder of Paul's still strong career (he just got nominated for a Golden Globe for best original song) in the last five minutes. The Beatles broke up in 1970, so five minutes isn't sufficient enough time to fit in 30+ years of fantastic solo and side band work. It needed another hour. Very disappointing.
