Seasonal Movie List: Fall/Autumn

The leaves are turning, the school year is in full swing, the days are getting shorter, and I'm ready to dust off my boots, sweater dresses, & tights. Yep it's Fall. So put on your comfiest sweater, bring out your throw blanket, put some pumpkin spice creamer in that coffee, and warm up some butternut squash soup. Here are some seasonal films to get you in the mood. I've kept off Thanksgiving & Halloween films since those are for other lists.

Quote: "Bueller?... Bueller?... Bueller?"
500 days of summer
Watch for: a very special autumn scene
Quote: "The following is a work of fiction. Any resemblance to persons living or dead is purely coincidental. Especially you Jenny Beckman. Bitch."
American Beauty
Watch for: The plastic bag scene, one of those most beautiful scenes in cinema with such amazing musical score by one of my favorite composers, Thomas Newman.
Quote: "and then it flows through me like rain and I can't feel anything but gratitude for every single moment of my stupid little life"
You've Got Mail
Watch for: NY in the Fall
Quote: "Don't you just love New York in the fall?"
The Village

Vanilla Sky
Watch for: A pivotal car crash in NY during the Fall
Quote: "Open your eyes."
Election
Watch for: HS election time in the start of Fall, Autumn suburbia, & R.W. in sweater vests.
Quote: "Or don't vote for me! Who cares? Don't vote at all!"
Watch for: a tribute to the 50s melodramas of Douglas Sirk in an iridescent fall palette with the women dressing for the season in pastel shades of rusty reds, greens and browns.
Quote: "So often we fail at that kind of love. The world just seems too fragile a place for it."
Watch for: Fall fairs & Costume party scenes.
Quote: " It's so much easier to be happy, my love. It's so much easier to choose to love the things that you have, and you have so much, instead of always yearning for what you're missing, or what it is you're imagining you're missing. It's so much more peaceful."
TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD
Watch for: Touching Fall scenes like Scout dressed as a ham on Halloween
Quote: "In the name of GOD, do your duty. In the name of God, believe... Tom Robinson."
