Plot: The mission of rescuing a kidnapped CIA agent from a lethal terrorist cell falls to an elite squad of Navy SEALs in this covert-action thriller. Active duty SEALs play the lead fighting roles in a saga based on actual events from their service. The question is, can they act? I haven't seen this movie yet because when it was released my hubby was about to be deployed. I do not watch war films right before or during deployments. Rating: TBD. Written by: Jason Keller (Mirror Mirror). Directed by: Indie Spirit winner Marc Forster (Everything Put Together). Plot: True story about Sam Childers (Butler), a former drug-dealing biker tough guy who found God and became a crusader for hundreds of Sudanese children who've been forced to become soldiers. John Carter 2012 scifi film Starring: Taylor Kitsch (Battleship), Lynn Collins (X-men Origins: Wolverine), Samantha Morton (Synecdoche, New York), 2X Oscar nom Willem Dafoe (Shadow of the Vampire), Oscar nom Thomas Haden Church (Sideways), Mark Strong (The Way Back), Dominic West ("Appropriate Adult"), James Purefoy ("The Philanthropist"), Emmy nom David Schwimmer ("Friends") & Emmy nom Jon Favreau ("Dinner for Five"). Written by: 2X Oscar winner Andrew Stanton (WALLE), Oscar nom Mark Andrews (One Man Band (short)) & Michael Chabon based on the story "The Princess of Mars" by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Directed by: Stanton. Plot: Transplanted to Mars, a Civil War vet (Kitch) discovers a lush planet inhabited by 12-foot tall barbarians. Finding himself a prisoner of these creatures, he escapes, only to encounter a princess (Collins) who is in desperate need of a savior. Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPBEBrAng34 Review: Taylor Kitch as yet another screw up who gets his act together. I'll start with a positive. The trailer is amazing. It gives me chills every time I watch it. The problem with the movie is that there's too much exposition that tries to explain the back story way too quickly, so it's difficult to grasp onto any type of intricate plot. If they had instead showed the back story and made it part of the film, it would have been easier to follow. With out the back story, you cannot care about the martians. That only leaves the love story to fall back on, which is sweet, but isn't enough to fill the void left by too much exposition. Kitch plays his usual self, and I'm not all that impressed with him. Collins is very good in her role. She is actually a black belt so it was interesting seeing her handle weaponry and fight in this film. This film is probably a much better book. Watch the trailer, and read the book. Skip this movie. You will forget about it as soon as you leave the theater. Rating: Stamped out so why bother.
