Review: On the surface, this is a love story. It's a movie about family and grief. It's about another person helping you find yourself. It's beautifully acted with a few of the actors taking roles that are foreign to them, especially Pattinson and Brosnan. Pattinson actually steps out and shows some emotion and vulnerability with this role. This is some of Brosnan's finest work. He delivers a multi layered performance here, tapping into aggression I haven't seen in him, not even as Agent 007. It's also interesting to see three foreign actors play Americans. Pattinson is English, Brosnan is Irish, and de Ravin is Australian. The accents work and don't take away from the performances. The young Ruby Jerins is an absolute delight. Very few kid actors actually move me in any kind of intentional way. She held her own amongst these seasoned actors. This movie moves past obvious contemporary comparisons like Crazy Beautiful, for instance, with one major scene that I will not reveal because of spoilers. This one scene changes your perception of the movie and skyrockets it from a decent rental to one of the most surprising films I’ve seen in a while and honestly the only movie that's truly surprised me in the last three months. Highly recommended even if you're not someone who typically likes romance movies. You will not be disappointed.
